Keys Are In It

I remember when you could pull into a gas station and paying at the pump was giving your money to the man who had the change machine buckled to his belt....after he has washed your windows, and checked your oil.....back when my father would take us to drive in movies pretty regular...

I miss back when!

Two Trees In Time

This house has no visible remnants of a driveway...no road access. I walked forever through the field that surrounds this house, to get this shot. I wouldn't get any closer than this...places like this change the way I feel, the closer I get to them. I would assume that this field fed the family that lived here, maybe it was a cotton farm, or corn....I wonder where the road was back then, and how long it's been since that house had someone living in it...how long it's been since it heard laughter....or had a child playing in the yard...if ever....

UPDATE: Jan. 31st I also post my photos on Flickr.com and a gentleman that ran across the photo there told me that he used to live here in the area when he was a kid....he said that his aunt told him a story about a birthday party and the family that lived in this house back in the 1930's....I'll see if I can find out more.

Can You Find Our Car?

If you look closely (double click to blow it up) you can see our pregnant rollerskate in the background.

A Change In Gears

So I decided to try a new sort of theme, to see how they would turn out. I wanted to shoot things that are abandoned, forgotten, from a time gone by....things that felt of yesterday. These are my finds....every one of these were found on HWY 55 from here to New Bern.

Floating Dreams

After spending 4+ hours this morning taking online tests for a potential employer, I snapped this photo on the way home. I've driven by this boat day after day for a long time, and only taken a picture of the boys in front of it.....I thought I'd give it a go by itself once. I guess anyone that's ever seen this old plywood boat has had to wonder.... when was the last time she backed out of that old boathouse and puttered down the river.....

.....and so the sea takes her back....

Snowed In

This morning it started to snow..... and it's still snowing. Pretty unusual in these parts, but a welcome sight for the kids. First thing after school today, the boys played outside. Here's a few pictures Bridget took and a video, right here at our dock.

Morning Close Ups and More Dolphins

I thought that I'd start the day off this morning with some photos, and I tried to just shoot close shots, which I found were not easy to do. These are some that came out ok. Also posting another of the few dolphin videos Bridget caught on that wonderful sail back in.

Dolphin Escort

This weekend we went sailing for a few days but the temperatures for the next few days are getting extremely cold, so we decided instead of going to far away and chancing it with what is sometimes a temperamental diesel heater, we'd just come on back in today instead. We saw speeds around 7 and 1/2 knots regularly with one reef in the main. On the way back in we saw a school of dolphins across the water, in a vast pack far in the distance and before we knew it, several were near our boat. I'm not sure but I think they were fishing, because earlier birds were flocking and diving into the water not far from where we were. We were able to get some shots of the ones close to the boat. Some of these dolphins looked to be 8-10 feet long. It is now the most spectacular thing we've seen while sailing. They literally escorted us right up the channel here at Whitaker Creek popping out of the water right next to the boat on all sides, swimming underneath, splashing with their tails, and blow hole mist shooting up in the air and onto the boat. The rest of what seemed to be a very large school were out in the deeper part of the river swimming North. What a way to end what was a cold but wonderful sailing weekend.
Bridget literally couldnt keep track of them all with the camera, and we were all totally amazed at their playfulness and numbers. INCREDIBLE!

Hey Mark, Remember This Guy?

Got in touch with an old friend this morning. Scooter used to work with me at Winston Salem Airport. He's now the GM at Fayetteville! Married to his eternal flame BETH, whom he dated long distance for about four years while she was in school and he was in Dulles.

Bad Hair Day?

I would say he had a good night's sleep. Or maybe not.
Either way, he's definitely having a bad hair day.

Happy New Year!

Well, the dragon has been run. We actually went out three times last night, lots of pots and pans bangin, people having a blast. The boys seemed a little shocked at the size of the crowd and the noise, and the fact that they were staying up that late, but they had alot of fun. Thanks to Perry and Susan for the opportunity. Happy New Year everyone!
